Notice to dog and cat owners from the Health Department

Borough HallThe Bergenfield Health Department would like to remind dog/cat owners that current dog/cat licenses expired on December 31st. As of February 1, 2016 a $5 late fee has been added to the normal licensing charge. If you need an updated rabies vaccine, the Bergen County animal shelter located at 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ is offering free vaccine for dogs and cats on Thursday, February 11th, 2016 between 3:00-6:00pm.

Also, the New Milford Health Dept. is offering free rabies vaccines from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Department of Public Works building, 930 Columbia Street.

Licenses can be renewed in person or by mail. If by mail make sure the late fee has been added to your check and you enclose a copy of any rabies update.

ADVISORY: Snow Emergency Lifted

The snow emergency declared on January 23, 2016 was lifted on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Overnight parking within the Borough will still be prohibited. Please be courteous and try to park on one side of the street only to allow for free passage of emergency and non-emergency vehicles. Please remember to remove ice and snow from vehicles before traveling and do not shovel snow into the roadways.

Due to the expected weather conditions, no parking will be permitted on any Borough street starting on Friday, January 22nd at 10:00 p.m. until Monday, January 25th at 7:00 a.m.

Free Rabies Shot Program

rabid dogThe Bergenfield Health Department will conduct its annual rabies vaccination program for cats and dogs on Thursday, January 14th, 6PM to 8PM at the Department of Public Works Garage. You may license your pet as well at this time but license renewal will continue by mail or in person through the month of January. The DPW garage is located directly behind the Bergenfield Borough Hall at 198 North Washington Avenue. All dogs must be leashed and cats should be in an approved animal carrier for their safety.

Dogs and cats may be vaccinated as early as three months of age and MUST be re-vaccinated within one year after the animal’s initial immunization. After that, the animal is required to be revaccinated every three years.

IMPORTANT: If your pet’s rabies vaccination expires anytime in 2016 you still must license your pet in January of 2016.

Join us for the annual Holiday Party at Cooper's Pond! Saturday, December 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be light refreshments and gifts for kids until supplies last. Santa Claus will arrive around 1:30 p.m., and the tree lighting will take place at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Museum Society will also be hosting an open house from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Leaf Collection Update

  • DPW will start their last round of leaf collection. Please make sure to bring your leaves to the street for the final week of collection.
  • Starting Monday, December 7th, DPW will collect in Quadrant 1, from the train tracks South towards East side of town.
