New Members Sought for Bergenfield Garden Club

The Bergenfield Garden Club is a grass roots community group looking for new members. The organization of plant lovers has been established in town for the past 90 years and will be celebrating that milestone in the fall. The members are dedicated to learning about the best practices on home gardening and beautifying public space in town. Club activities include:* expert speakers on vegetable and flower gardening* plant propagation* community flower plantings* field trips* seed and plant sharing

This has proven very helpful to new homeowners as well as the newly retired. The club is seeking new project ideas and welcomes the input from new members. The sharing of expert advice from long-term members is always free and a great resource for those inexperienced in propagating and growing plants and vegetables for the home. The love of community and plant ecology has been successful for generations in Bergenfield though this club. Come see if this organization is one you can grow with while meeting like community residents.

Sunshine Notice - Borough of Bergenfield Work Session Meeting Change of Start Time

The Mayor and Council Work Session schedueld for Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in the Executive Chambers in the Municipal Building, located at 198 N. Washington Avenue, Bergenfield, NJ 07621 will commence at 7:30 p.m.

Council will open the meeting at 7:30 p.m. to enter into Closed Session to conduct an exit interview with the Police Chief.  No formal action will be taken.

The Work Session will resume at 8:00 p.m.

PSE&G logo(NEWARK, N.J. – June 23, 2015) Public Service Electric and Gas Co. is closely monitoring the rain and possibly severe thunderstorms expected later this afternoon and evening. The wind gusts, heavy rain and lightning associated with summer storms can be dangerous and cause power outages. PSE&G, New Jersey’s largest electric and gas utility, offers the following tips on how to prepare for, and be safe during, a storm.

Hazardous Waste Collection

Hazardous Waste Collection for items such as paints, insecticides, oil filters, pesticides, etc. will take place on Sunday, June 28th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bergen Community College, located at 400 Paramus Road in Paramus.  For more information, please visit DPW (Public Works) department page above.

Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade - Monday, May 25, 2015

The Borough of Bergenfield Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade will be taking place on Monday, May 25th.  Please join us for the following events:

10:00 a.m. - Ceremony hosted by the Bergenfield Fire Department in front of Borough Hall.

11:30 a.m. - Ceremony hosted by the Veteran's Committee in front of Borough Hall.

2:00 p.m. -  the Annual Parade will travel on WASHINGTON AVENUE, starting at Sylvan Ave. and ending at Borough Hall.

Please note, since the parade will be traveling on Washington Avenue, the NJTransit Bus route has been directed to Prospect Avenue.  Please contact NJTransit directly or check their website with any questions regarding their bus schedule.

Sanitary Sewer Line Cleaning Project Updates

Please be advised National Water Main Cleaning Co. will continue the cleaning and televising of sanitary sewers.  The working crews will be working near River Edge Road and North Prospect Ave. and will continue towards Locust Ave. and North Prospect Ave.

Residents should expect sporadic road closures and lane diversions throughout the Borough. United Water stated that residents may experience brown water coming from their sink faucets if they live in the area where the sewer work is being performed. Residents are advised that if they experience brown water conditions in their homes, they should open their faucets and run the water until the water runs clear.  United Water stated there should be no need to boil any water prior to use.

The "Vendor Event" will take place Saturday, March 14th in the Bergenfield Ambulance Building, located on 1 Froelich Street in Bergenfield.  Directions: Corner of Front and Forelich Streets.  Two blocks north of the Bergenfield Library.  FREE ADMISSION, and the event will take place Rain or Shine!
